The Parquet Shawl design combines an interesting shawl shape with a meditative textured stitch pattern inspired by geometric patterning found on parquet flooring. Rectangular blocks of contrasting stocking stitch and garter stitch texture emerge from a series of central triangles. The stitch pattern blocks are shaped using eyelet increases and corresponding decreases, with additional blocks gradually added as the triangle lengthens and widens.

Starting from the lower central point of the triangle, the shawl is knitted lengthwise in three connected and seamless sections. The triangle shape is knitted first. When the full depth has been reached, the shawl splits and continues as two rectangles. Each rectangle is worked separately on the bias. Knitting on the bias creates a lovely drape and allows the stitch pattern to flow from the triangle into the rectangles. The ends of the rectangles are shaped to lengthen the inner edges of the shawl. The overall shawl shape is similar to a large triangle with a smaller central triangle removed.
