July Fancy for the Threads of Colour - A Year in Squares

As much as I am enjoying the squares and the planning and plotting that goes into creating each one, it is the Fancy each month that has really caught my heart. I am an avid reader and there are bookmarks in many books, from old receipts to a beat up leather dwarf that lives in my Tolkein books. In all these years I have never knit a bookmark. Maybe I should be knitting more.

Sunny Daze is a little bookmark, double knit flat so that each side is a mirror of the other side. In this version the bookmark is also finished with a knitted fringe.
You could also start the bookmark with the fringe cast-on and have a fringe on both ends.
Bookmark as shown starts with a 2-colour long tail cast-on and finished with a fringe bind-off.

Sunny Daze Bookmark is a double-knit knitting pattern for a reversible, two-colour bookmark with a knitted fringe finish. Designed as the July Fancy for the Threads of Colour: A Year in Squares KAL, it uses just 45-55 yards of fingering-weight yarn and works up quickly on US 1 needles.

What You Get

A PDF knitting pattern with written instructions and a chart for a double-knit bookmark worked flat. Each side is a perfect mirror of the other, so there is no wrong side.

• Size: One size, fits most books
• Cast-on: 2-colour long-tail cast-on
• Finish: Fringe bind-off (or start with a fringe cast-on for fringe on both ends)

• Gauge: 8.5 sts per inch in double-knit stockinette

Materials Needed

• Yarn: 45-55 yards (41-50 m) of light fingering weight yarn in two colours. The sample uses Cascade 220 Fingering.
• Needles: US 1 / 2.25 mm
• Techniques used: Double knitting, stranded colourwork, 2-colour long-tail cast-on, fringe bind-off

About This Design

Designer Lynette Meek is an avid reader with bookmarks tucked in books all around the house. From old receipts to a well-loved leather dwarf that lives in the Tolkien books, she had never actually knit a bookmark until this one. This little project might just convince you to knit more bookmarks too.
