FELTED PEPPERMINT COASTERS AND BOX

Brighten your holiday table with four swirled coasters nestled inside a matching felted box. The lidded box has a base that’s knit the same way as the coasters. Then stitches are picked up along the edges to work up the sides.

Cascade 220 by Cascade Yarns, 3oz/100g hanks, each approx 220yd/201m (wool)

1 hank each in #8010 natural (A) and #8895 Christmas red (B)

One set (4) size 6 (4mm) double-pointed needles (dpn) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Size H-8/5mm crochet hook

Scrap yarn

Stitch marker

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Diameter of felted coaster 4"/10cm

Diameter of felted box 4"/11.5cm

GAUGE

22 sts and 40 rows to 4"/10cm over garter st using size 6 (4mm) needles before felting.

 

PEPPERMINT PLACEMAT

Enlarge the coasters and you’ll get this cheery placemat. (Four of them make a great gift pack.) The swirls are worked back and forth with short rows to create a circle; the provisional cast-on row is grafted to the final row for a clean edge.

PEPPERMINT PILLOW

This pillow is knit like the placemat and coasters, but with two sides that are sewn together and a decorative button marking the center of the swirl. A button band on the back makes inserting and removing a pillow forma piece of cake.
