This playful brioche stitch hat uses a clever increase and decrease method to create 3D sculptural horns. The design began with curiosity about combining the [Stacked Stitch][1] technique with brioche stitch.  The horn shape that was discovered was obviously meant to go on a hat. Aside from the horns, this hat pattern is deliberately left pretty plain so that the knitter can add their own embellishment and color to create different types of horned characters. Consider this hat as part of a costume for a goat, bull, demon, fawn, viking, etc. 
**This project is well suited for knitters that are experienced with brioche stitch.** If you have never tried brioche stitch before, this pattern is not recommended. You can easily do this project after finishing a basic hat pattern or if you have a good understanding of how to work this technique in the round. The **Swish Net** is a fringed scarf or wrap with a hexagonal mesh pattern evocative of a fishing net. This project uses a special technique called the lattice stitch, creating fabric out of a series of icords. This stitch is also known as faux-chet because it so closely resembles various crochet stitches. This unusual construction makes the fabric somewhat unlike most other types of knitting. Dropped stitches do not ladder, but that also means you can’t fix a mistake without ripping back to that spot. Each row takes a while to knit, but there are far fewer rows in each project than there would be in a more traditional stitch. The mesh fabric has a variable gauge. The openwork stitches allow the length and width of the project to shift freely. The same size project can be worn as a long, narrow scarf or a short, wide shawl.
  
Because there are some unusual techniques used in this project, the pattern comes with a photo guide for each row. You can either work from a traditionally written pattern or from the tutorials. It won't be long before you have the stitch pattern memorized. The lattice stitch playlist on my YouTube channel may also help you learn the stitches and understand the pattern.
  
Because of this special light weight fabric, you'll get a lot more for your yardage compared to similar stitches in crochet or even other knit stitches. Bulky weight yarns tend to eat up a lot of yardage, but this pattern is designed to take your yarn much further. Each row is worked in a different color, making this the perfect project for mini skeins, scraps, or Advent calendars. I love how the bulky weight versions use mini skeins of KnitCollage art yarn. You hardly need any Koigu KPPPM to complete a row. If there's a yarn that you love to use and you have a bunch of scraps, you can probably make a swish net with them.Depending on what yarn you choose, you can wear this pattern in any season. Thicker yarns work better for the winter.
  
The samples used in the pattern show the two most extreme scenarios - Fingering weight and bulky weight. I personally think anything thinner would be tedious to knit and anything larger wouldn’t be practical. If you decide to make your project with a different weight yarn, you'll have to do some experimentation to see what the best gauge is. Despite differences in gauge, the cast on row of each sample project is 72”, this is a good size to aim for regardless of the yarn you use. The number of rows affects the overall length of the project. As more rows are added, the length also grows because the rows become more skewed. The Codebreaker Scarf is a simple and fun geometric lace shawl with a seemingly random pattern. However the stitches actually contain a hidden message. The project is worked on the bias from one end to the other, creating a parallelogram shape. A series of eyelets worked along one edge creates a mesh-like fabric on half of the shawl, and the other side of the project is solid garter stitch. The project is well suited for adventurous beginners or intermediate knitters who are comfortable with increases (Yarn Over), decreases (K2 together, slipped stitches and beginner lace work. You may choose to encode your own message, or pick the number of eyelets in each row randomly. I’ve included the specific instructions for the same encoded message that I used in my project, but if you want to know what my scarf says, you’ll have to solve the puzzle yourself!

  
**Finished Size:** 17.5” (42 cm) wide and 90” (229 cm) from corner to corner.
**Yarn:** 2 skeins of Urban Girl Yarn Virginia, 480 yards (439 m) per 125g skein; 90% Superwash Merino, 10% Nylon OR 920 yards of fingering weight yarn. his pattern is written with Urban Girl Virginia fingering weight yarn in mind. This yarn is sold in generously sized 125g skeins instead of standard 100g skeins. I used 95% of 2 skeins (approx. 912 yds / 842m) in my project and encoded 105 characters. 200g of the same yarn only makes 86 rows of eyelets - only 75” in length. Make sure you have enough yardage to make the size you want.&nbsp;
**Needles:** Size 6 (4mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
**Gauge:** 19 sts and 32 rows = 4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm) square in garter stitch.

The Stacktangle Scarf is a new crochet pattern from Patrick Stewart and Xandy Peters. This scarf is worked horizontally in a granny stitch pattern. The inclusion of stacked increases and decreases turns simple stripes into complex looking colorwork. Pat and I based this pattern off of our earlier [Stacktangle Blanket][1] collaboration. The charted and written instructions include 3 different lengths and it's easy to make adjustments to the stitch count.

The pattern is worked in a Main Color and 2 contrasting color yarns. You can read more about quantities in the Pattern Info section below. Each end of the scarf is embellished with a generous length of fringe, continuing the stripes all the way to the ends of the project. There's a lot of room in the pattern to play with color, we even included bonus instructions for a two color version.

This project is well suited for crocheters who are familiar with basic stitches and are ready to take on some new skills. If you've had experience with the chain stitch and the double crochet stitch, you have all the skills you need to start this pattern. There are a few increases and decreases that you may not have seen before, but we've included photo tutorials of anything that's not widely known.

The Glenbrook Scarf is designed for less knitting and more warmth. It is half the length of a traditional winter scarf, but the pull-through channel allows you to easily and securely tie this scarf around your neck. When you aren’t wearing it, the scarf rolls up and can be secured with the loop for tidy storage. The scarf starts from the loop. Stitches are cast on using Judy’s Magic Cast On and then you knit in stockinette stitch for a bit. Then, the top edge is joined with the cast on edge to form a tube. The remainder of the scarf is worked in ribbing with yarns held double. The edge is finished with a tubular bind off. The pattern includes a photo guide of each step, there’s no need to worry if you haven’t tried some of these skills before.
This pattern pairs with the [Glenbrook Hat][1] for a matching set.

Truchet Tiles are a symmetry game, first recorded in 1704 by Sébastien Truchet. His original tile game consisted of squares split along the diagonal into two triangles of contrasting colors. In quilting this shape is known as a “Half-Square Triangle”

This cowl works well with any fingering weight yarn. Thesample was knit from a set of leftovers from the Corner  Point Scarf and the yarn is unfortunately discontinued.
The fuzzy, wooly qualities of this non-superwash yarn are similar to John Arbon Devonia 4-Ply. 

The pattern is fully adjustable for any gauge.

The Winter Wave Hat was a spontaneous project inspired by the arrival of a new family member. I used two 100g skeins of bulky weight yarn in contrasting colors. After knitting the smaller (navy) hat, there was exactly enough yarn left to make a larger hat with the remaining yarn. This project features a simple stacked stitch motif worked in 2 colors in the round.

Trypophobia is a fear of small clusters of holes or shapes that resemble holes.This triangular shawl is bordered with holes of increasing size. A special series of decreases and increases is used to easily create the large hole stitches in this project. You don't need to bind off and cast on to create these large holes.

This pattern is adjustable to any weight yarn and the size is fully adjustable. The pattern includes written instructions, charted instructions and a photo guide for the hole technique.

The Stroopwafel Shawl has a basket weave stitch that reminds me of the Dutch cookie of the same name. The center of the shawl is knit in a woven cabled  motif. At the edge of the triangle, the stitch pattern transitions seamlessly into a lacy lattice. The cables create an extra warm, spongy fabric that is sure to keep you warm.

**Finished Size:** 70" (178 cm) wide and 29" (74 cm) deep.
**Yarn:** 3 skeins or approx. 700 yards (650m) of DK weight yarn such as:
Countess Ablaze The English Gentleman DK, 260 yards (240 m) per 100g; 75% Bluefaced Leicester, 25% Marsham.
OR Wool 2 Dye 4 Highland DK, 246 yards (225 m) per 100g; 100% Peruvian Highland Wool.
**Needles:** Size 10 (6 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge and size 8 (4mm) needles. Yellow swatch worked on size 9 (5mm) and size 7 (4.5mm).
**Gauge:** 20 sts and 22 rows in waffle patt = 4 x 4" (10 x 10 cm) square.
**Other Materials:** 1 marker, 2 cable needles or locking stitch markers, sewing needle, pins, blocking surface and steamer.

**Yarn info for substitution:**
The yarn in the original samples is a loosely spun, 2-ply wool (blue) or a regular wool yarn in DK weight (yellow). Any yarn with spring and drape can be used, add a strand of mohair to mimic the fuzzy texture.
*Changing the size of the shawl* - The Waffle and Lattice sections may be repeated as many times as you like to get the size you want. In the sample gauge, every 4 rows changes the width by 2.5" (6.cm). For the best results, weigh your yarn before you cast on. You can keep track if how much you have left and measure how many grams you will need to do another 4 row repeat. A 4th skein is necessary if you plan to add more than 5" (12 cm) of width.
*Changing the weight of the yarn* -  Use needles 2-3 sizes larger than the size on the ball band of your yarn for the majority of the shawl and the recommended needle size for the border. Because the finished size is easy to adjust, pick your needles by the drape of the fabric, not by gauge. If the fabric is stiff, go up a needle size. 


This scarf was designed for Knit Stars Season 7 as part of the Story of a Swatch Class. The goal of the project was to create a textured scarf that looks good on both sides, lies flat, and uses less than 3 skeins of MollyGirl Yarn Rockstar DK. The resulting scarf combines a wide variety of textured stitches and openwork from the design portion of the class.

The Bonfire Cowl was designed as a way to use up scrap yarn. The chevron pattern was inspired by Victorian era flame stitch textiles and bargello motifs. The pattern uses 2 alternating magic balls and is a great way to use up scraps. This method softens the breaks between each color and blends the hues together. It is worked circularly in 2 directions so theres never any purling.

This pattern is best suited for someone who has basic knowledge of pattern reading, circular knitting, increases, and decreases. The pattern contains a photo tutorial of the magic knot and sewn bind off. 

**Finished Size:** 25-50 (63.5-127 cm) in circumference and 13
(33 cm) tall. Shown in longer size

**Yarn:** 100 (200) grams of scraps of sport and fingering weight

Laser Tag is a triangular wrap with an easy short row design. It can be worked in two contrasting colors of yarn or each stripe can be worked in a different color. This pattern works well with yarn scraps and mini-skeins, each color stripe is designed to use less than 20g of yarn. The asymmetrical shaping helps this shawl hug your shoulders and stay put.

Pages 1-3 of the pattern have been uploaded as images to show materials, full yarn information, and the shape of the shawl laying flat. You can use the coloring page to plan your colors ahead of time.

**Finished Size:** Small (Large) is 72" / 183cm (84" / 213cm) wide and 26" / 66cm (30" / 76cm) deep.
**Yarn:** Main Color - 100 (150)g of fingering weight yarn; 460 yards / 420m (690 yards / 630m).
Stripes / Contrasting Color - Six 90 yard / 82m mini skeins of fingering weight yarn

**Skill Level:** This pattern is best suited for intermediate knitters or adventurous beginners who are familiar with increases and pattern reading. The short rows are created by simply turning the work and do not require knowledge of special techniques.

Short rows combined with picked-up stitches create a 3D welt pattern.

The Puddle Jumping Cowl started as a short design challenge. Was it possible to design a simple project on a short flight to a teaching job? I didn't have anything on my needles and had packed a single skein of **self striping yarn**. Three hours after boarding my flight, I landed with the first few rounds of this cowl finished.

This pattern works best with self striping yarn. The pattern is easy to memorize. It's only 4 lines long. Markers will help you keep your place in each repeat as you work through the pattern.

This project is good for knitters who have tried increases and decreases and want to **learn** the Stacked Stitch technique.

**Finished Size:** 24, 30, 36" (61, 76, 91cm) in circumference and 14" (35cm) tall.

Gauge and size can be adjusted to work with any weight yarn.

**Needles:** Size 4 and 5 (3.5 and 3.75mm) 32"circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge.

**Gauge:** 2 stacks wide x 2 stacks  high in patt = 3" x 2" (7.6 x 5 cm).

**The Petal Scarf** is a flat version of the original [Petal Cowl][1]. The stitch shapes are inspired by flower petals, fish scales, and vintage crocheted afghans. A great cold weather knit, or a summer project when made in thinner yarn. A unique stitch is used to create an extra long chevron motif which sets this scarf apart.

This pattern is best suited for knitters with a good understanding of simple brioche stitch and are ready to take their skill to the next level.
