Framed Shells Afghan Block and Stitch Pattern PDF

The Weirs Along the Dodder knitting pattern is for a legwarmer and sock combination. Inspired by a system of little fishing weirs encouraging the river to run along in bubbles and swells. The pattern can be used to create a pair of leg warmers, a pair of matching socks, or a leg warmer with attached sock foot. The socks can be knitted either top down or toe up.
  
The leg warmer or long sock leg is knitted with 2 strands of sock yarn held double. The colour of the 2 strands of yarn is changed one at a time, creating an effective and intentional ombre effect, where the colour changes always fall in line with stitch changes. If working as just leg warmers, you can substitute a self-striping double knit yarn. However, this will not work if planning on adding the foot and creating a full sock which is worked with a single strand of sock weight yarn.
  
**Sizes**
The pattern comes in 7 sock sizes, 7 calf circumference sizes, and 5 leg lengths, which can be mixed and matched for a perfect fit.
  
Sock foot from 5 3/4” / 14.5 cm to 11” / 28 cm
Leg circumference from 6 1/2” / 21.5 cm to 17 1/4” / 44cm
Leg length from 13” to 21”, to be worn with 2 - 5” positive ease for a slouchy fit.

The legwarmer section uses sock yarn held double, or double knitting/ 8 ply yarn.

Pattern For Weirs On The Dodder - Socks & Legwarmers - Light Yarn - Knitting Pattern PDF

The socks fit a typical 18 inch doll such as Our Generation, American Girl or Gotz Precious Day.
  
The finished socks have a foot circumference of 3 ½” / 9 cm, foot length (adjustable) of 2 ⅛” / 5.5 cm and leg length (adjustable) of 2 ¾” / 7 cm. To be worn with slight negative ease on a doll with a foot circumference of 3 ¾” / 9.5 cm.
  
Yarn required:
Small scraps of any sock yarn or 4 ply yarn in 2 contrasting colours. Colour A: for toes, heels and cuffs – approx. 4g, 16 meters Colour B: for main body of socks – approx 8g, 32 meters
  
The socks are worked with a colour block, boomerang heel technique. It has a gusset on the top of the foot before and after the heel.
  
**Accessibility**
  
This free pattern is written to be as accessible as possible, using the British Dyslexia Association guidelines. For this reason, some traditional features of knitting patterns are altered slightly. For those who prefer a more traditionally presented pattern, the PDF download for this pattern can be purchased as part of the Weirs on the Dodder sock pattern, where a traditional layout is available.
  
The pattern is written in clear black text on an off white background.
  
There is a space between each line of instructions.
  
No Abbreviations are used. All instructions are written out in full. For example, instead of saying ‘k1’, the pattern will say ‘knit 1’.
  
All emphasis is created using bold font, no text is in block capitals or italics.
  
Where instructions need to be repeated, this is stated both before the repeat, and afterwards. This aids screen reader accessibility, and those who need clarity on sequencing steps. For example, instead of saying: Round 1: knit to end. The Palestine Hat is a beginner-friendly knitting pattern that works up quickly in worsted weight yarn. Designed to show solidarity with the people of the war-torn Middle East, this hat can be made in the colours of the Palestinian flag: red, black, white, and green.

**Pattern Description**
The Aisling hairband is a beginner friendly crochet pattern. These hairbands work up quickly and are fun to make. Each hair band will take less than an hour to create and they are a brilliant stash buster. You can use small leftover scraps for each circle, with as many colours as you like.

The pattern comes in all sizes, from baby to adult, with inclusive sizes to fit adult foot widths including extra narrow and extra wide sizes. 

The sock is worked from the toe up with gusset and heel flap.

Accessability.

The easy read accessible pdf uses 22 point print for readability in black text on an off white background. It uses no Abreviations, for screen reader accessability and easier access for some neurodiverse knitters.

Digital item - sock knitting pattern PDF. Falmore River Socks

This free scrunchie knitting pattern is for a DIY hair accessory created by knitting a simple tube in a lace stitch, and then folding it around a hair elastic and sewing it up.

This scrunchie also forms the gauge swatch/tension swatch for the Falmore River socks, to be published on 31st March 2025. If you are knitting it as a gauge swatch, it is important to use a sock weight yarn and match gauge. If you are knitting it just as a scrunchie, why not experiment with different yarn weights and needle sizes? The scrunchie will come out bigger than the stated size in thicker yarns.

This scrunchie pattern can be used as a stand alone pattern. It also functions as the gauge swatch for a sock knitting pattern the Falmore river sock, coming Monday 31st March. The full sock pattern has been tech edited by Louise Plumbridge and tested by an amazing team.

Accessibility

All text is black, on a slightly off white background. Background shading has been used to highlight some paragraphs and make them easy to follow for dyslexic crocheters. Yarn: I used a worsted weight cotton or cotton/linen mix for all samples. The yarns used in the sample shown for adult sizes were a mix of 3 yarn types from my stash, which all work to the same tension. These were:

Drops Paris. 100% cotton. 50g. 75meters/82 yards. (Used for the white stripes)

Hobbii Rainbow. 100% cotton. 50g. 75 meters/ 82 yards. (Used for the yellow stripes)

Performance Linen Touch. 80% Cotton, 20% Linen. 50g. 65 meters/71. yards (used for the blue/green variegated stripes)

Total yarn requirements:

These Little Dargle summer footsies are designed for comfort on a warm summer’s day, giving a barefoot look with the freshness of a sock. 
I designed this pattern because I went on a mission to replace my messed-up sock drawer full of odd socks with a carefully curated set of hand knitted socks. There are so many wonderful patterns from so many designers I hope to work through, but summer was coming and the one type of pattern I couldn’t find was for a basic footsie. 


Sizes: XS/S (M/L, XL)
Knitted sock actual circumference: 17.5 (20, 22.5) cm / 7 (8, 9) in

To fit foot width up to: 19 (21.5, 24) cm / 7½ (8½, 9½) in

Yarn and needles: 
1 skein 100g/400m Wild Atlantic Yarns Siofra 4 ply yarn, 70% bamboo, 30% Linen 
One skein will give 2-3 pairs of footsies.

Yarn substitutions: The suggested yarn is a 4 ply yarn, and any other fingering weight or 4 ply yarn may work if it knits to the required tension. The yarn has 400m per 100g, so an alternative yarn with 400m to 100g or 200m to 50g will be suitable.
The linen content of this yarn makes it ideal for a sock project as it will add durability and the bamboo gives freshness and absorbency for a hot summer’s day. Therefore an alternative yarn with similar content and weight should work well. As with any sock, a woolen yarn should work well.

Needles and notions: 2.5 mm circular needle or size required to achieve tension (gauge), stitch holder, darning needle to weave in ends.

Construction techniques: 
These summer footsies are knitted from the toe up. The toe is knitted in the round, then the sole of the foot is knitted in straight rows back and forth and a wrap-and-turn heel is created, lastly stitches are picked up the full way around the sock for a ribbed edging. 
They are styled as a ‘footsie’, in other words, they grip the toe and heel to give the comfort of a sock, while leaving the top of the foot uncovered for a barefoot look.

This pullover is worked from the bottom up in two parts, front and back. These are then crocheted together at the shoulders and sides, and the neckline and arm borders are added. The main stitch used is an angled block – which is very similar to a c2c stitch but worked in straight rows. It uses chain and double crochet stitches to create the block, and full instructions are given for this easy, beginner friendly stitch. Despite the simplicity of the stitch, the overall look is one of flattering horizontal lines, which seem to ripple as the garment moves, reminiscent of a calm sea under a gentle breeze. The garment is styled as gender neutral, and suitable for people of all pronouns. It is a versatile pullover, suitable for dressing up as formal workwear or teaming with jeans for a casual look.

Enneskerry Garden Cardigan

This crochet version of a classic Henley sweater is a comfortable and stylish wear. Working in dolmen style, the project starts at the sleeve cuff, works up the sleeve, across the body, then down the second sleeve. 

Intro
The Hill of Tara hat is a fun, easy quick project for a striking hat in child and adult sizes that is suitable for all crocheters including beginners. It is worked using back loop stitches to create a super stretchy rib for a cosy fit.

It is worked up in straight rows and tied at the top, creating the puff. Also available are matching mittens and neck warmer.

It is designed for Aran weight wool and a 6mm crochet hook - or size needed to get required tension. I used an Aran weight merino which came out super soft. Any pure wool will be extra warm.

Environment and sustainability: A problem I tried to solve with this design was the need for polyester pom-poms on hats which are not kind to our beautiful planet. By adding a puff to the top of the hat (an otherwise simple and traditional beanie) there is no need for a Pom Pom. The cowl and mittens were then designed to match, and create a full set.
The sample items were all made in pure wool, which has best properties for warm outdoor wear. Locally sourced wool is also probably the most eco friendly choice. In drier areas, cotton and other plant based yarns also work well. It is up to you what yarn you use once the pattern is purchased. It will work up in any worsted weight yarn.
