For anything to exist, you, me, the yarn we work with now, it relies on a whole chain of existence. For us to spin yarn, we need the sheep who grew the wool, the sun that grew the grass that fed the sheep, the farmers who tended the sheep, the wool workers who processed and dyed the wool; we need our wheels or spindles and the creators of those tools; we need our teachers who have taught us this skill; we need the energy to place into each ply that comes from the nourishment we have taken in; and to make this cowl, we need the designer and everyone who makes <i>PLY Magazine</i> possible.
  
Nothing comes into being by itself – it has to inter-be with everything else. We are not separate; we are all links in a chain; we need each other to be.
  
While you create this cowl, knitting each chain and linking them together to form a whole, meditate on all that brought you to this moment, see your life unfolding as a chain of events that has placed you into this beautiful practice, giving thanks and gratitude for all that is, knowing that you are part of that chain of existence and that you are also needed for all things to exist.

Carnelian is a stone made of chalcedony, a cryptocrystalline form of silica. It gets its reddish-orange color from iron oxide.

I was wearing this color when I had my first Glimmer I had heard about the feeling online and thought awe, thats cute but when it happened to me it felt like coming home to myself.
  
Ochre is earth with Ferrous Oxide that is this exact color. It is naturally occurring all over the world where iron is present in the soil.

Bandanas had multiple uses for cowboys, they were an important symbol in the fight for workers rights in the coal miners movement, They obscure the identity of land protectors, and they’re used for flagging in the queer community.

The term redneck was popularized during the miners movement to unionize in 1921, 10,000 miners marked by a red bandanna around their neck, protested and rioted to secure workers rights in one of the largest armed uprisings in labor history.

The bandanna is knit flat in an allover lace pattern and seamed.

The pattern uses approximately 400 yards of fingering weight yarn in an 80% merino wool 20% silk

This vest is knit back and forth in 3 pieces and seamed.

Fringe is attached with a crochet hook and an applied icord is added to all the edges.

The sample garment is knit in an 80% wool 20& hemp blend dk weight yarn.
and uses a lace weight mohair as an accent color.

This cowl / infinity scarf was part of a collaboration for Stitch Up chicago 2023 and appears on the Stitch & Hustle blog and the Mother of Purl Website for free.

The Final Volume, Volume V.

The Winter is officially over, and some feelings linger. After a long season of internal and subconscious journey, having brought feelings to the surface, they are now ready to be fully in the light. 
The themes of healing that permeate this collection correlate to the seasons, and Volume V is no different. To truly make a change, we must first see what there is to change. 
what better time, than after a winter of contemplation, and into the bright spring to plant the intentions of growth and change. 
The pine vest was born out of trial and error, love for the pine motif, and wanting an echo of all the work that was put in for the sweater, as an abbreviated version. 


I hope you love it as much as I do, and see how the themes of life can repeat, while also maintaining their own lessons and progress.

Based off the pine tree motif featured in Volume IV (the pine sweater) this pattern is the abbreviated version. knit in the same yarns, sleeveless, seamless, bottom up, and timeless this vest transitions you out of winter and into spring, or if you don’t have time to get it done for spring, from fall into winter.
