**Nar** is a triangular shawl knit from the center out. It is charming in its simplicity with just a few design quirks.
 
This uncomplicated design is perfect for busy, multicolored yarn, like **Ella Rae Marmel** here, but would also look bold and sophisticated in a solid or semi-solid yarn.
 
It is a beginner friendly pattern, and I promise you will fly through this project and love your shawl as much as I love mine.
 
**Yarn**: 2 skeins of DK weight yarn, 275 yds (250 m) / 100 g each.
I used 2 skeins of Ella Rae Marmel in Pyrope color.
 
**Needles**: US size 6 (4 mm) circulars, 24” or 32” cord, or to get gauge.
 
**Gauge**: 18 sts x 28 rows in 4x4”.
 
**Size**: 60” (150 cm) wingspan, 26” (66 cm) along the spine

**Speedwell** is a triangular shawl is knit from one corner out, with increases on one side and a simple lace design on the other.
 
The shawl uses two colors of **lace weight silk/mohair yarn**, held double throughout. First, color 1 is held double, then a strand of color 1 and color 2 are held together, and finally color 2 is held double, creating a gradient effect.
 
The pattern is beginner-friendly.
 
**Yarn:** Ito Sensai Lace weight mohair/silk
(60% Mohair, 40% Silk) 20 g - 240 m / 262 yds
in 2 colors:
Color 1 x 40 g
Color 2 x 60 g
 
**Alternative Yarn:** (please note the yardage difference!) Lace weight mohair/silk yarn 25 g - 210 m /229 yds OR 50 g - 459 yds / 420 m.
 
Suggested alternative yarns: Luminous Brooklyn Shining Silk Mohair, Knit Picks Aloft Super Kid Mohair, Hobbii Friends Kid Silk.
Color 1 x 50 g
Color 2 x 85 g
 
**Needles**: US 6 (4 mm)
 
**Notions**: 4 stitch markers, tapestry needles for weaving in ends
 
**Gauge**: Holding yarn double stranded 22 sts x 24 rows in 4”x4” (10x10 cm) stockinette stitch after blocking. Gauge is not crucial, but different gauge requires different yardage and will yield a different size finished object.
 
**Finished size**: 58” by 46” by 72” (148 cm x 117 cm x 183 cm)

**Nutmeg** is a large rectangular scarf *knit on the bias* (diagonally). Simple in construction, but using **6 different colors** and **two different yarn bases**, in various changing stripes, creates a fun and whimsical piece. 

The pattern is beginner-friendly.

**Yarn required:** 

**Fingering weight sock wool**, 400 yds (360 m) / 100 g each in 3 colors:

Fingering Color 1 (F1) x 100 g 
Fingering Color 2 (F2) x 85 g  
Fingering Color 3 (F3) x 60 g

**Lace weight kid mohair/silk yarn**, 458 yds (420 m) / 50 g each in 3 colors:

Lace Color 1 (L1) x 50 g
Lace Color 2 (L2) x 50 g 
Lace Color 3 (L3) x 50 g 

**Needles**: US 5 (3.75 mm)

**Gauge**: holding Fingering and Lace together 22 sts x 30 rows in 4”x4”

**Techniques used**:

knit, purl, yarn over, K2tog (knit 2 stitches together, right leaning decrease), SSK (slip slip knit, left leaning decrease), M1L (increase by 1 stitch by Making 1 Left), M1R (increase by 1 stitch by Making 1 Right)

You will start knitting diagonally in the bottom right corner, increase on both sides on every right side row until you reach the needed width. 

From then you will increase 1 st in the beginning of each right side row, and decrease 1 st in the end of each right side row, which will keep the scarf at the same width while growing in length. 

Finally you will decrease on both sides on every right side row to create the top left corner.

**Tigris** is a large triangular two-color shawl knit in stockinette stitch with *sport weight yarn*, featuring 3 color block sections.

It is knit from the center out. You will start with two plain color blocks, and switch to a broken stripes pattern, which is achieved by using basic **intarsia** technique.

This is a great project for newer knitters who are just learning intarsia, and more experienced knitters alike.  

**Yarn**: The sample is knit with **6 balls** (50g (1.76oz) /175m (190yds) each) of **mYak Baby Camel** yarn: 3 balls in color Antracite and 3 balls in Gobi color.

**Needles**: US 4 (3.5mm) circular, 24” (60cm) cord.

**Gauge**: 20 sts x 28 rows in 4”x4” (10cm x 10cm).

**Finished size**: 210cm (82”) wingspan and 85cm (35”) along the spine.

**Stitches used**: knit, purl, m1R and m1L increases, simple one step intarsia

*[Tigris is the river in Asia. The name reflects the light and flowy nature of the fiber and also it sounds a lot like Tiger, which is very fitting for a striped shawl]*

**Lemon Tart** is an original design scarf, that uses two different fibers with basic **intarsia** technique. The juxtaposition of stockinette stitch and lace border, rectangular shape with two rounded corners, - will keep you wanting to knit this scarf again.
 
Weighing just under 150g, this scarf is super lightweight, but comfy and warm, and will make a great statement piece for your night out.
 
You can choose to use fibers in the same color, or pick contrasting colors for a more striking look.
 
**Yarn**: 120g of Fingering Weight (100g/420m) and 25g of Lace Weight silk/mohair (25g/300m). If using thicker lace weight yarn (25g/225-250g), you will need 40-45g.
 
**Yarn used for the sample** - 3 skeins of Pascuali Pinta (Merino, Ramie, Silk - 50g/212m each) in color Lemon 116
and 1 ball of Pascuali Mohair Bliss (Mohair, Silk - 25g/300m) in color Lemon 821

Needles: US 5 (3.75 mm)
 
**Gauge**: 25 sts x 28 rows in 10cm x 10cm (4”x4”) in Fingering Weight yarn after blocking
 
**Size**: 180cm (72”) long x 46cm (18”) in the widest part in the middle

**Katia** is a large rectangular scarf with lace design accent, that will quickly become your go-to piece when the temperature drops.

Although any ***worsted weight slub yarn*** will do, this scarf was designed specifically with **Katia Cotton Merino Volume** in mind. 

The first half is a simple lace design which gradually transitions to stockinette, maintained by a garter border throughout. 

The complexity of intermittent thickness of the yarn results in an interesting and beautiful fabric overall and a design you’ll want to knit again and again.

**Yarn**: **8 balls** of Katia Cotton Merino Volume (50 g / 100 m each) = **400 g of yarn total**.

**Needles**: US 10 (6 mm).

**Gauge**: 15 sts x 18 rows in stockinette stitch after blocking.

**Finished Size**: 80” x 16.5” (200 x 42 cm)

**Zirka** *[Star, ukr]* is a large triangular shawl, knit from one corner outward, with increases along one side. It features i-cord edges, and stockinette stripes alternating with star stitch lacy panels that increase in size.

The sample is knit with all stockinette panels in one main color, and lace parts in three contrasting colors, but the opportunities for creativity are endless.

You will need **fingering weight wool**, 400-450 yds (360-410 m)/ 100 g each
**in 4 colors:**
Main Color (MC) x 100 g 
Contrast Color 1 (CC1) x 55 g 
Contrast Color 2 (CC2) x 85 g 
Contrast Color 3 (CC3) x 35 g

**Needles**: US 3 (3.25mm)

This heart shaped shawl is knit in garter stitch and finished with a sophisticated picot bind-off.
  
While the original shawl was knit with three contrasting colors, the simplicity of the design accentuates your color palette, allowing for infinite choices.
  
Yarn: 3 x 50 g of Fingering weight (50 g / 248 yds). Original was knitted with The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers Soka’pii, but feel free to use any fingering weight yarn you wish.
  
Gauge: 17 sts x 34 rows in garter stitch after blocking with US 5 needles.
  
Techniques used: make 1 left/right increases, picot bind-off, knitted (cable) cast-on.
  
Sept 23 - Updated the pattern to include instructions for Mini Kombu - a shawlette that requires only 75 g of fingering weight yarn, I used 3 x 25 g of mYak light fingering Baby Yak Organic Cotton (25 g / 127 yds). Pattern updated with row/stitch count and photos of Mini Kombu.

Mavka is an extra large rectangular shawl which features DROPPED STITCHES throughout, giving it an intentionally DISTRESSED look. The shawl is knit lengthwise in stockinette stitch; this will result in edges rolling slightly, adding to the rustic look.
  
I used 300 g of Purl Soho Linen Quill, 100g/430m (50% fine highland wool, 35% alpaca, and 15% linen). You can use any other fingering weight yarn, but highly recommend yarn with cotton/linen fibers.
  
Needles:
40” circular needles US size 5 or 6 to get gauge
  
Gauge: 20 sts x 30 rows in 10x10 cm.
  
Size: 80” lentgh, 20” width.

This boomerang shape shawl is knit from one corner out with double increases on one side and decreases on the other side. The shawl is worked in 2 different bases and 4 different colors. Silk/mohair yarn is held double to match the gauge of light DK weight yarn. Generous in size, this shawl is perfect for wrapping thrice around your neck.

I wanted something light and airy, but with a twist, and this is how Hystrix wrap came to life.

This rectangular shawl is knitted on the bias from one corner out, with purl ridges that accentuate the diagonal construction of the wrap.

You will need 100 g of Lace weight yarn (50g/459 yards). For my samples I used 2 skeins of Hedgehog Fibers Kidsilk (70% Kid Mohair, 30% Silk). Pink is Gossip color way, and blue is Maelstrom color way. You might choose to alternate between skeins for every two rows to avoid color pooling (I didn’t, and one half of the shawl.

US size 4 (3.5 mm) circular needles or the size to get 18-19 stitches x 25 rows in 4x4” stockinette gauge. (measurements for gauge taken before blocking!)

Finished wrap measures 24”x76” after wet blocking.

Stitches used: knit, purl, Make 1 Right, Make 1 Left, knit 2 together, slip slip knit.

It is a fun knit that will create an awesome, cozy, warm wrap.

You will need 2 skeins of fingering weight wool, 400-450 yds (360-410 m) / 100 g each. And US size 4 needles (3.5mm). 

The original is knitted with 2 skeins of Hedgehog Fibers Skinny Singles in Insomnia color (and yes, this is where the name comes from).



**Vinicunca** is a symmetrical triangular shawl that is beautiful in its simplicity and perfect for beginners and experienced knitters alike. 

Knit with one main color and several contrast colors and fibers, this shawl is a great way to use up those scraps or try a new type of yarn you’ve been curious about. Using only KNIT and PURL rows you will create a beautiful fabric that somewhat resembles brioche, but is way easier to knit.

Both sides of the shawl are equally gorgeous, making it reversible.

You will need 200g of DK or Sport Weight in one Main Color, and 6 contrast colors in similar weight, 15 g each. 

Pattern is easily adjustable to make your shawl bigger, if you'd like.

Laelia is a triangular shawl, knitted from the corner out, with increases on one side only. 

Its simple design was made specifically for gradient yarn, but will look bold with solid color, too. 

Made originally with cotton yarn, this is perfect for spring and summer.

Yarn: You will need 200 grams of fingering weight yarn (100g/400-425m). The original was knitted with just one ball of Hobbii Dahlia (200g/800m, 100% cotton) or Hobbii Azalea (200g/800m, 52% cotton, 48% acrylic).



**Basic cowl with a cowboy flair.**
  
Perfectly fitted, pointy tip allows it to stay inside your coat, keeping your neck and chest warm on those cool days on the prairie.
  
The pattern starts as a basic triangle, knitted flat from the corner out, and is then joined in the round, to complete the cowl part.

Lilac Leaf is a simple yet elegant cowl, featuring basic stockinette stitch and leaf lace pattern. It is knitted in the round from bottom up, and requires just one 50g ball of yarn.

The Flying Fox Shawl is a symmetrical shawl that balances the simplicity of garter stitch with the beauty of basic lace knitting. And of course, tassels - they make everything better.

Knit in a sport weight yarn, it is large enough to be worn as a shawl or a scarf. I prefer to knit it in cotton because the crispness highlights different textures, but Flying Fox would be beautiful in a variety of fibers including wool and alpaca. 

The pattern is suitable for beginners and advanced knitters alike.
