A Beginner's Checklist For Pattern Uploading

You’ve created your first pattern and are ready to upload it to a Selling Channel. First of all, congratulations! You’ve done the work. Now we’re here to guide you through and get your pattern out into the world!

This checklist is everything you can expect to be asked when uploading your pattern to various selling channels. We’ll also cover how you can streamline this process with gosadi Smarts ™. By filling out this checklist, before uploading to multiple Selling Channels you'll be able to create consistent product descriptions that entice customers and increase your sales!

A good product description provides your customers with all the information they need to decide to make their purchase. In addition to providing information, it should also help customers learn why there is value in your product. Why will buying YOUR product be good for THEM and help them achieve what they want?

Let’s start by creating a checklist of everything you’ll need to include in your description to achieve more sales. Then you can get your product up and running on a selling channel. As the pattern creator, you already know the answer to most of these questions. But we suggest you start filling out this checklist during your design process to save yourself time and the effort of tracking this information down later.

1. craft type:_________________________________

Is it a knit, crochet, or Tunisian crochet project? Also, consider adding which skills a maker will need to know in order to start your pattern.

2. pattern details:___________________________

What name will you be giving your pattern? What style is your pattern? Is it a beginner, intermediate, or advanced-level pattern? Is there a repeat in stitch work or is it a journey with great detail?

3. categories:______________________________

How would you define the use of this pattern? Is it for the home or for your pets? Is it clothing or is it more of an accessory?

4. nitty gritty:_________________________________

This is where you’ll need to remember what tools were used to create your project. You can think of this as the shopping list for your customers! What hook or needle sizes do they need? Which yarns were used, what gauge are they, and how much yardage do your customers need to have?

Remember - online opens a worldwide audience to you. So the more details you can give here, the more chance someone far away will be able to buy and enjoy your pattern.

5. attributes:________________________________

“Attributes are like free super tags”, explains Jenny Benevento, Senior Manager of Etsy’s Taxonomy team. Attributes are specific to the category that you’ve selected above. If you chose clothing, examples of your attributes would include the garment size and style.

6. notes:____________________________________

Notes are your opportunity to paint a picture of your pattern. We call this Flavor Text! This is where you’ll add your product description and flare. While we recommend that the above details are summarized to help with search optimization, customers have a tendency to look directly at the notes section and skip over the project details. So it is key to provide all of this information.

You also want to use this as an opportunity to communicate directly with your customers. Talk to them. Share about the inspiration. Maybe share about the styling of the item. Talk about your process for design. Flavor text creates that one-to-one connection even though it is an online arena.

time to upload!

Now that you’ve worked through our checklist it’s time to upload!

Each selling channel may ask for some of the above information as you create the listing. Ravelry and LoveCrafts ask for many of these details while Etsy does not specifically ask for these. So be prepared to supply the information from your checklist to each selling channel you choose to list your product.

When uploading through gosadi you’ll be able to input this information once thanks to the help of gosadi Smarts ™. We’ll make sure that your information is updated across your desired selling channels in only a few clicks! This will save you loads of time and make it easier to list in multiple places.

If you don’t have gosadi yet, use your checklist as a source of truth to make sure that your information is staying consistent across all of your selling channels.
